The roots of our country, from Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and George Mason, run deep throughout the Commonwealth. Independence Day marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the 13 original colonies.
The Declaration of Independence reads, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Click here to read the full Declaration.

Keith wanted to give a brief update and let supporters know that the campaign is going great. 11th District Republicans are energetic, enthusiastic and coming together as a strong unified team with a singular purpose: defeating liberal Gerry Connolly in November.
Gerry Connolly is the poster boy for the damage that liberal career politicians are doing in Washington. He has rubber stamped Nancy Pelosi’s big government agenda 97 percent of the time, including the $800 billion failed stimulus, the job killing cap-and-trade energy tax scheme, and the trillion dollar government health care debacle.
And if his record wasn’t bad enough, take a look at this recent video of Gerry Connolly asking an astonished Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke “Is there enough spending to be cut?” in the federal budget. Statements like this make clear Gerry Connolly is exactly the problem in Washington and exactly the type of big spending, big government politician that is bankrupting our nation.

Keith secured the Republican nomination in a primary contest by a historic margin, surpassing Gerry Connolly’s 2008 Democrat primary vote total and surpassing his total votes cast by several thousand.
“Pat Herrity ran a strong, passionate race and we congratulate him for his effort,” Fimian said. “Now the race turns entirely to focus on Gerry Connolly’s failed record.”
“Two years ago I said Gerry Connolly would spend recklessly and do nothing to improve the economy. Sadly I was right. Connolly has gone on a spending spree and has utterly ignored our economy,” Fimian said. “Voters will see a contrast with a businessman who knows how to create jobs and reduce spending versus a career politician who is a rubber stamp for out of control government.
“I will campaign on the exact same issues that carried me to victory in the primary—issues like a commitment to turning our economy around, stopping wasteful spending, and getting taxes under control. Now it’s on to November,” Fimian said.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It dates to the late 1860s when the day was set aside to honor those killed in the Civil War. Not until the 1970s did it become an official federal holiday. Today, we remember all those who have died in military service defending our freedom.
As I write today, thousands of brave Americans are putting themselves in harm’s way in Iraq and Afghanistan in defense of freedom and our way of life. 4,387 Americans have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and 1,075 in Afghanistan. We must never forget these heroes, the thousands more who have been wounded in defense of our nation, and the families of our servicemen and women.

Momentum is building for our race. We are the first campaign to be on radio and television. We have a large and comprehensive grassroots effort. Our supporters have identified voters and we have the proof that people are swinging over to our side. We also just opened a second headquarters to expand that grassroots campaign.
Recently, Keith received the endorsement of Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Ken knows a true conservative, and we are honored to have his endorsement.
As the federal fundraising deadline ends on Wednesday, help Keith stay ahead of his opponents by contributing $21 for the 21 days left in the primary.
