Freeze Government Spending
The Federal Government spends too much money. We cannot continue to run up trillion dollar deficits and multi-trillion dollar national debt. Continuing down this path will debase our currency and turn us into a debtor nation.
We need to immediately freeze government spending and return all unspent TARP funds to the Treasury.
I support a Federal Balanced Budget Amendment as well as a constitutional amendment to give the President the line item veto. Career politicians in Washington are spending addicts. They are incapable of controlling spending.
Ban Earmarks
As a member of Congress, I pledge to submit no earmark requests and introduce legislation to ban earmarks entirely. Earmarks may only comprise a small portion of the federal budget, but they hold down the gas pedal on out-of-control government spending because they encourage members of Congress to vote for huge, bloated spending bills. If you want your earmarks, the big spenders have leverage over you and your vote. “Don’t like all the waste? Fine, we’ll take out your pet project.” All of a sudden, the opponents of the bill have something in it for their district or state, so they feel they HAVE to vote for it. Earmarks are what tempt otherwise good congressmen to vote for bad bills.
Pledging not to earmark liberates members to vote their conscience on spending bills, and it puts the interests of the next generation ahead of the next election.
Audit the Federal Reserve
I also support auditing the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve has the authority to spend hundreds of billions, if not trillions, without Congressional approval. We need to audit their books and see where the money is going.
