Connolly’s Response: Make Up Numbers

Fairfax, VA - Tim Edson, Campaign Manager for Keith Fimian released the following statement today in response to news that the unemployment rate climbed to 9.6 percent in August, another indication of the weakening economy due to the failed economic policies of Congressman Gerry Connolly and Congress:

“Congressman Connolly keeps telling his constituents that the economy is getting better, but with another 54,000 jobs lost in August, all Northern Virginians are seeing is continued layoffs and an
economy gripped by uncertainty driven by Connolly’s disastrous tax-and-spend policies. Connolly continues to complain that Democrats haven’t been successful in their attempts to weave a
narrative. So he’s decided to invent new facts that do not match reality.

Connolly Debates Himself on Tax Cuts

Fairfax, VA - Tim Edson, Campaign Manager for Keith Fimian responded to Congressman Gerry Connolly’s remarks yesterday on Bruce DePuyt’s NewsTalk on TBD TV. Connolly said that despite his belief that the Bush tax cuts are a failure, he now supports keeping them. But maybe only temporarily.

“Gerry Connolly is double speaking so fast he’s setting a new standard for a career politician debating himself in a single interview. He went on Bruce DePuyt’s show and debated himself on the Bush tax cuts,” Edson said. “Congressman Connolly told viewers that he was against the Bush tax cuts, before he was for them.”

“This is exactly the kind of political double speak that people are tired of. Clearly what Congressman Connolly really means is that he only supports extending the tax cuts until he is re-elected, then he will repeal them,” Edson said.

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian made the following statement today in response to Congressman Gerry Connolly’s recent statement to Politico that “you try to highlight that which you know will put your best foot forward” in reference to his efforts to hide his unwavering support for Speaker Pelosi’s agenda:

“Congressman Connolly has rubber stamped Speaker Pelosi’s failed agenda of bigger government, trillions in new spending, and hundreds of billions in job destroying taxes 97 percent of the time,” Fimian said. “As could have been predicted from a career politician like Gerry Connolly, he is running from his record and desperately reinventing himself as something he is not weeks before an election in hopes of fooling voters into sending him back to Congress.”

“Despite his campaign trail rhetoric, Congressman Connolly has been unwavering in his support for Speaker Pelosi and the failed, reckless agenda of this Congress,” Fimian said. “From the failed $862 billion stimulus to the trillion dollar government healthcare takeover to his vote for job destroying cap-and-trade, Connolly has voted with Democrat party bosses and against his constituents time after time.

“I really don’t know what 11th District voters should find more troubling: the fact that Gerry Connolly has taken so many votes against their interests, or the fact that he arrogantly brags to the press about his efforts to hide from his record and deceive his own constituents into sending him back to Congress,” Fimian said.

Fimian Calls on Connolly to Oppose Mosque at World Trade Center Site

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today calling on Congressman Gerry Connolly to oppose the controversial mosque planned near the
World Trade Center site in New York City:

“The debate about building a mosque near the World Trade Center site isn’t a question of law or religious freedom. It’s simply a question of respect and compassion for the victims of the World Trade
Center attacks and their families,” Fimian said. “I urge Congressman Connolly to state his opposition to the proposed mosque near the World Trade Center site and encourage President Obama to do the
same.”

“The families of the victims and the American people are overwhelmingly opposed to the construction of this mosque,” Fimian said. “I take the advocates of the mosque at their word that they are seeking to foster peace and understanding between Muslims and the United States, but surely they can understand the opposition from the families who lost loved ones on 9/11. Building this mosque
elsewhere would truly demonstrate respect, sympathy and understanding for the victims and their families.”

“For the last two years, Gerry Connolly and other big spending, big government politicians in Congress have claimed that the federal government can spend the United States into prosperity,” Fimian said.

creating an environment where small businesses are afraid to hire.”

Payrolls decline by 131,000 jobs in July and revised June numbers indicated that 221,000 Americans lost their jobs. Many economists worry the US economy is headed into a deeper recession.

CBO: “budget deficits will cause debt to rise to unsupportable levels”

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement today in response to yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office analysis, warning of dire consequences if Congress does not get federal deficits under control.

“Yesterday’s CBO analysis supports what I and many others have been telling Congressman Gerry Connolly and the rest of the big government, big spending career politicians in Congress for nearly two years: the path we are on is simply unsustainable,” Fimian said. “We are borrowing 41 cents on every dollar we spend. These deficits are creating debt that will crowd out investment and innovation, further
weakening our economy and leaving the United States vulnerable to fiscal and national security crises.”

According to the CBO report, “federal debt held by the public will stand at 62 percent of GDP at the end of fiscal year 2010, having risen from 36 percent at the end of fiscal year 2007….” The report also pointed out that “In only one other period in U.S. history—during and shortly after World War II—has that figure exceeded 50 percent.”

Record Federal Deficits for 2010 and 2011

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement today in response news that this year’s and next year’s deficits will exceed last year’s record deficit of $1.4 trillion.

“Federal spending is simply out-of-control. When the politicians controlling the federal checkbook are borrowing 41 cents for every dollar they spend, we have reached an untenable position,” Fimian said. “This fiscal madness threatens our economy, our national security, and every family in the nation, both in the short term and generations off.”

“We can get federal spending under control, but not with the same big spending career politicians in office,”Fimian added. “We must behave responsibly, and a good place to start is undoing the trillion dollar deficits and trillions more Congressman Gerry Connolly has added to the national debt during 19 months in office.”

“Controlling spending will not only get the nation back on sound fiscal footing, but help eliminate the uncertainty that is causing companies not to hire,” Fimian said.

Connolly Shoots Himself in the Foot on the Economy

Connolly Shoots Himself in the Foot on the Economy

Says job creation “less important” than controlling high deficits, gets ‘F’ on both

Fairfax, VA – In today’s Washington Post, Gerry Connolly reiterated how out-of-touch he is with northern Virginians and his lack of understanding of how the economy grows, saying “job creation is ‘less important’ to his constituents than the ‘Sophie’s choice’ of a double-dip recession or higher deficits.”

Keith Fimian responded: “Gerry Connolly once again demonstrates he is the reason we find ourselves in the mess we are in and why he is exactly the wrong person to get us out.  He can’t fix our economy and get skyrocketing deficits under control.  Gerry Connolly gets an ‘F’ on job creation and deficit reduction.  His economic policies have failed, but his prescription to fix the economy remains the same: borrow, tax and spend.”

“At a time when northern Virginians are worried about their jobs, their mortgages and their retirements, the last thing they need is a representative in Washington who places the economy on the back burner because he doesn’t understand that the out-of-control spending he supports is jeopardizing northern Virginia jobs,” Fimian said.

Congress Can Create an Environment Favorable to Job Creation

Fairfax, VA – With the economy continuing to struggle, and career politicians like Gerry Connolly more focused on their re-election than helping struggling American families and small businesses with substantive policies to jumpstart the economy, Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement today, outlining his plan to put Americans back to work:

“We need American businesses to create private sector jobs across this great nation, and that begins with unleashing the creative genius and entrepreneurial spirit of the American people,” Fimian said. “The federal government simply cannot create real jobs on any large scale. And the jobs it is creating are either temporary or the result of new government programs, mountains of reckless spending and trillions of dollars that future generations will have to pay back.”

“The current policies coming out of Washington are a deterrent to economic growth,” Fimian said. “What small businessperson wants to invest in this punishing environment? If Connolly and the rest of the big spending career politicians would stop doing harm, entrepreneurs and small business owners would be able to plan and invest in their businesses so that they can grow again and create the jobs everyone wants but that no one seems to understand how to create.”

Connolly Confirms Effort to Duck Budgetary Responsibility

Yesterday, it became official that House Democrats and Gerry Connolly would fail to pass a budget resolution for the first time in history.

Keith Fimian responded: “Instead of passing a budget resolution focused on cutting wasteful spending and enacting policies to spur economic growth, Gerry Connolly and the rest of the liberal career politicians are running for election year cover. Connolly and his fellow big spenders know their constituents oppose their reckless behavior, but they have every intention of continuing it so they are avoiding going on the record with a budget proposal until after Election Day.”

Connolly and his party are forfeiting their responsibility to govern, not wanting to again publicly declare their support for the massive deficits they have created as they run for election year political cover. On May 22, 2010, Connolly confirmed his strategy, telling the Los Angeles Times, “I’m not going to vote for anything with that magnitude [of deficit],” Connolly said. “Name one person who won or lost an election because they didn’t get a budget resolution passed.”

Connollynomics: New Jobless Claims Rise to 484,000 Last Week

Aug 12, 2010

Fairfax, VA – With news that new jobless claims surged to 484,000 last week, Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement:

“News of surging jobless claims is just another indication that the economic policies of Gerry Connolly and the rest of the big spending career politicians in Congress are making matters worse, not better,”
Fimian said. “Only a liberal big spender like Gerry Connolly could possibly think wasteful government spending, and taxing and regulating every aspect of the economy will spur job creation and economic
growth.”

“Americans want to work. Unfortunately, the economic policies of Gerry Connolly and this Congress are putting more and more people on the unemployment rolls, instead of on the payrolls of northern
Virginia businesses,” Fimian said.

Connolly’s Recovery: 221,000 Jobs Lost in June, 131,000 in July

Aug 06, 2010

Fairfax, VA - In response to news that Congressman Gerry Connolly’s economic policies have failed to create jobs, Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement:

“For the last two years, Gerry Connolly and other big spending, big government politicians in Congress have claimed that the federal government can spend the United States into prosperity,” Fimian said.
“Several trillion dollars later, we see those policies have failed. The only thing Congressman Connolly has achieved is tripling the federal deficit to $1.4 trillion, creating a record $14 trillion national debt, and
creating an environment where small businesses are afraid to hire.”

Payrolls decline by 131,000 jobs in July and revised June numbers indicated that 221,000 Americans lost their jobs. Many economists worry the US economy is headed into a deeper recession.

Connolly Weaves Epic Tale, Runs from His Record

Aug 05, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Tim Edson, Campaign Manager for Keith Fimian, responded today to Congressman Gerry Connolly’s recent comment that “I would say we [Democrats] have not been very good at weaving the narrative” related to their efforts on the economy.

“When Gerry Connolly says Democrats have not been very good at ‘weaving the narrative,’ what he really means is that Democrats have failed to deceive voters into supporting their failed economic policies,” Edson said.  “Connolly is in lockstep with his colleagues on votes for reckless spending and higher taxes, but he has no intention of joining them in failing to ‘weave the narrative.’  Congressman Connolly is redoubling his efforts to deceive northern Virginians.”

Connolly’s Stimulus: Economic Failure, Millions in Wasteful Spending

Aug 03, 2010

Fairfax, VA- Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement today regarding Gerry Connolly’s support for millions in reckless spending contained in the failed $862 billion stimulus.

“We know the stimulus has failed to create lasting jobs on any large scale, and the jobs it did create came with price tags of several hundred thousand dollars each in some cases,” Fimian said. “And according to a recent report from Senators Coburn and McCain, we find out it is loaded with outrageous wasteful projects that do absolutely nothing to stimulate economic growth.”

Among the projects cited in the report:

Economy Continues to Struggle, Connolly’s Policies Continue to Fail

Jul 30, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) responded to news today that the economy grew less than expected in the second quarter of 2010.

“Today’s news of weaker than expected growth is another sign that the only thing the $862 billion dollar stimulus has succeeded in doing is driving federal deficits to record levels. It has failed to strengthen our economy or create jobs,” Fimian said.

“It is clear to everyone except big spending career politicians like Congressman Gerry Connolly that more reckless federal spending isn’t the answer to our economic woes,” Fimian said. “Go ask any small business person what to do and you’ll get the same response: reduce uncertainty and create conditions where companies can hire and expand without fear the government will raise taxes and enact burdensome legislation the increases the cost of doing businesses.”

CBO: “budget deficits will cause debt to rise to unsupportable levels”

Jul 28, 2010

Jul 26, 2010

Jul 19, 2010

Connolly Replaces Independence Day with Halloween

Connolly dresses up as a fiscal conservative to hide trillions in reckless spending

Fairfax, VA - Gerry Connolly recently sent a mailer at taxpayer expense touting his supposed efforts to fight wasteful spending. Tim Edson, Campaign Manager for Keith Fimian, responded:

“After voting for reckless spending and adding hundreds of billions to the deficit, Gerry Connolly insults the intelligence of 11th District voters by touting his supposed fiscal responsibility, despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary.”

“Gerry Connolly has voted for the failed $800 billion stimulus, the $1.4 trillion government takeover of healthcare, raised the debt limit to $14 trillion as well supporting the job-killing cap-and-trade bill and a slew of other budget busting bills and programs.”

NRCC Elevates Keith Fimian to “Young Gun” Status

Fimian Joins Elite Group of Challengers

Fairfax, VA – Today the National Republican Congressional Committee announced that Keith Fimian, candidate for Congress (VA-11), has been elevated to “Young Gun” status in its Young Guns program to elect open seat and challenger candidates.

“I will continue to aggressively take my message to voters and build an effective, winning campaign infrastructure to deliver the message Americans are sending to Gerry Connolly: they want leaders in Congress who can control wasteful spending and create an environment favorable to economic growth and job creation—something big spending career politicians like Gerry Connolly simply have no idea how to do,” Fimian said. “I am grateful for the vote of confidence that Congressman Sessions, Congressman Cantor and House Republicans have given me by elevating my campaign to Young Gun status.”

Congress Can Create an Environment Favorable to Job Creation

Jun 28, 2010

Jun 23, 2010

Connolly, Democrats Fail to Pass Budget

Jun 22, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement in response to news that Gerry Connolly and Democrats will fail to pass an annual budget resolution for the first time in modern history:

“Instead of passing a budget resolution focused on cutting wasteful spending and enacting policies to spur economic growth, Gerry Connolly and the rest of the liberal career politicians are running for election year cover,” Fimian said. “Connolly and his fellow big spenders know their constituents oppose their reckless behavior, but they have every intention of continuing it so they are avoiding going on the record with a budget proposal until after Election Day.”

“The failure of Gerry Connolly and Democrats to pass a budget is just one more indication that they have no plans and no intention of controlling out of control deficits and skyrocketing debt,” Fimian said. “Their only interest is securing re-election at the expense of our nation’s future.”

Connolly “has no clue about any federal spending that might possibly be reined in”

Jun 15, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Gerry Connolly’s recent question, “is there enough spending to be cut?,” to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke during a House Budget committee hearing elicited a laugh from the chairman and goes to the root of the problem in Washington.  Despite trillions in new reckless spending in less than two years, career politicians like Gerry Connolly are clueless as to where to cut and how to fix the problems they have created.

The Washington Examiner writes that, “Connolly, of course, was trying to get Bernanke to say that tax increases are necessary, and that budget cuts won’t solve the problem of runaway deficits.  What Connolly can’t seem to wrap his head around is the concept that congressional spending is exactly what is causing those deficits to run away.”

“Gerry Connolly is the poster boy for the damage that reckless career politicians are doing in Washington,” Fimian said.  “He has rubber stamped Nancy Pelosi’s big government agenda 97 percent of the time, including the $800 billion failed stimulus, the job killing cap-and-trade energy tax scheme, hundreds of billions in new taxes, and the trillion dollar government health care debacle.”

Worried Gerry Connolly Goes on the Attack and Showcases His Own Problems with Facts

Jun 15, 2010

The Republican Party of Virginia

Democrat Gerry Connolly, realizing that being at Nancy Pelosi’s beck and call might be a bit unpopular,  and facing a tough re-election campaign because of his out of touch votes in Congress, has launched his opening salvo of the general election campaign with an ad that is simply unbelievable, even for Gerry Connolly.

Apparently, Rep. Connolly is too busy wondering if there is any wasteful government spending which could be cut from the budget to actually check to see if the ad is accurate. Since Connolly’s campaign can’t be bothered to do its homework or even check the facts, the Washington Post did it for them.

“So while Fimian didn’t close the door on the idea, he certainly didn’t endorse it. But Connolly’s camp pounced anyway, launching a website and a video in which a Connolly campaign worker asks voters, ‘What do you think of Keith Fimian wanting to abolish the 17th amendment?’ The video also truncates Fimian’s statement, quoting him saying, ‘There is some merit to that,’ but omitting the part where he said, ‘I am inclined to say no.’”

Since the Connolly campaign enjoys web ads, they should enjoy this video which sets the record straight.

BOTTOM LINE:  Quote taken out of context + clip art - fact check =

Unlike Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), Keith Fimian Knows that Congress is Allowed to Cut Spending

Jun 14, 2010

Liberty Pundits

The fact that Connolly has to ask Ben Bernanke whether there is enough spending that could be cut to reduce the deficit is actually pretty scary. He apparently doesn’t realize that the spending increases he voted for, let’s just take the $1 trillion Stimulus boondoggle as one example, are responsible for the deficits we are talking about. If you don’t want to spend money on a government program . . . then don’t.

Ed Morrissey had the video and a good write-up.

Keith Fimian is running against Connolly in VA-11, my home district. Connolly voted with every offensive piece of legislation written by Nancy Pelosi, from the Stimulus, to Cap and Tax, to Obamacare, Cash for Clunkers, etc. It is no wonder he is confused about cutting spending. He has never seen such a thing in his 1 1/2 years in congress.

November Election Could Have Very Different Result

Jun 10, 2010

Inside NoVA

Keith Fimian won Tuesday’s 11th Congressional District Republican primary. He will go on to face sitting Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly in November.

Connolly defeated Fimian in 2008, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee seem to think the same thing will happen in November.

“Fimian’s embrace of the far right puts him out of touch with middle-class voters in Fairfax and Prince William that want a congressman who stands up for them,” said Jesse Ferguson, the committee’s southern regional press secretary. “Keith Fimian puts quality of life issues in Northern Virginia a distant second to his extremist agenda.”

We think the Committee’s confidence may be misplaced.

A lot has changed since 2008, and Fimian’s conservative agenda could very well play more posi-tively with voters this time around.

Republicans Tap Fimian

Jun 09, 2010

Washington Post

Republicans in Northern Virginia decided Tuesday to create a rerun of 2008, nominating Oakton businessman Keith Fimian to face Rep. Gerald E. Connolly (D) for the second straight cycle.

The contest in the 11th District, where Fimian beat Fairfax County Supervisor Pat S. Herrity (Springfield) 56 to 44 percent, was one of five GOP primaries held across the commonwealth and one of the most closely watched.

In a statement, Fimian congratulated Herrity on a hard-fought race and said he would “campaign on the exact same issues that carried me to victory in the primary—issues like a commitment to turning our economy around, stopping wasteful spending, and getting taxes under control.”

Fimian’s GOP Win in VA-11 Sets Up Connolly Rematch

Jun 09, 2010

The Wall Street Journal

Northern Virginia businessman Keith Fimian won one of the more low-key primaries in the Old Dominion where Republicans were vying to take on a vulnerable freshman Democrat.

Fimian had a clear lead over his only challenger, Patrick Herrity, a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

That means Fimian gets a rematch with Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly, who beat him by more than 40,000 votes in 2008. The seat had been vacated by a moderate Republican, Tom Davis, who had held it for more than a decade. Fimian, who is anti-abortion, was portrayed as too extreme for this suburban Washington, D.C., district two years ago. The race will be an interesting test to see what, if anything, has changed since then.

As we’ve reported, the 11th district is where both parties are trying to figure out how to maintain their support among suburban voters.

Gerry Connolly’s Staff Calls Fighting Wasteful Spending an Extremist View

Jun 09, 2010

Fairfax, VA—Democrat Party staff working on behalf of Gerry Connolly sent out a statement last night that showed how out of touch Connolly is with the concerns of Northern Virginians. They chose to attack Keith Fimian’s agenda of fighting wasteful spending and creating jobs.
The DCCC release said, “Keith Fimian puts quality of life issues in Northern Virginia a distant second to his extremist agenda.”

Keith Fimian responded, “Gerry Connolly has voted with Nancy Pelosi’s big government agenda 97% of the time. Connolly is a tax and spend liberal who has consistently refused to do anything to get our economy moving.  Instead he has been on a binge of the most wasteful spending in the history of our nation.  Those are not extreme issues. Those strike to the heart of what is wrong with the career politicians in Congress.”

Oakton businessman Keith Fimian defeated Fairfax Supervisor Pat Herrity in the Republican primary for the 11th congressional district Tuesday, setting the stage for a rematch with freshman Democrat Rep. Gerald Connolly in November.

Letter to the Editor: Know the Facts; Vote for Fimian

Jun 04, 2010

Inside NOVA

Your paper has done a great service in the past by encouraging people to vote and you have published information and views of individual candidates as best one can know it.  Often as not, though, many candidates do get rather creative with the truth.  Case in point:

I have read everything I can from several sources, including the flyers mailed to us by Keith Fimian and Pat Herrity. These are the two we are concerned about; that is, which one will be running against the incumbent, Rep.Gerald Connolly (D)? Mr. Connolly voted for the Stimulus Bill and the Obama health care bill when nobody had a chance to read them. That is unthinkable and grossly irresponsible. Mr. Connolly has to go.

Mr. Herrity has made accusations against Mr. Fimian regarding his company’s taxes, licenses, etc.  Mr. Fimian has responded explaining exactly what happened with the tax issue and the fact that he didn’t have employees in Arkansas and didn’t need a license there.

Fimian Statement on Centreville Day-Laborer Site

Jun 03, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today regarding the proposed day-laborer site in Centreville:

“With plans for a day-labor center moving forward, I join with Centreville residents and business owners in opposition.  As well intentioned as proponents of this project may be, it sends entirely to the wrong message to people who have, in many cases, broken our laws to be here and invites a host of problems including increased potential for crime in the area.”

“If the federal government would just do its job, states, localities and well intentioned citizens would not be left with the responsibility of figuring out what to do with illegal immigrants.  The rule of law is a fundamental underpinning of our way of life and our system of government. Unfortunately most of the career politicians in Washington love to write new laws, but lack the resolve or good judgment, or both, to enforce existing ones.”

Connolly Complains Obama Thinks He’s a Loser

May 23, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today in response to Gerry Connolly’s recent comment that he has spilled buckets of blood for the Obama Administration:

On May 20, 2010, Connolly told the Washington Post: “Let me get this straight: If you think I can’t win, you’re not going to spend political capital on me, even though I spill buckets of blood for you? The White House can’t be [keeping] distance from people who have walked the plank for them, even when they might lose. Loyalty matters in this business.”

“There is no question Gerry Connolly is a loyal subordinate of Pelosi and Obama. Connolly is right to be concerned that he has spilled blood for the Obama and Pelosi. He has blindly followed Democratic leaders, routinely voting for policies highly unpopular with his constituents and destructive to our nation’s future,” Fimian said. “In fact, Connolly has voted with Pelosi 97 percent of the time, including for the $1.3 trillion government healthcare takeover, the $832 billion failed stimulus and the job-killing ‘cap-and-trade’ energy tax scheme, all of which are highly unpopular with Northern Virginians.”

Down in Polls, Connolly Tries to Hide Record

May 19, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today in response to Gerry Connolly’s efforts to hide from his record:

“Yesterday Gerry Connolly sent out an email and automated phone call touting his recent vote against congressional pay raises,” Fimian said.  “The simple fact is, Gerry Connolly knows he is already down in the polls and is desperately trying to recast himself as a fiscal conservative, despite all the evidence to the contrary, including his votes for the $1.4 trillion government healthcare takeover, the pork-bloated $832 billion failed ‘stimulus’ bill, $670 billion in taxes increases, economically ruinous ‘cap-and-trade’ and billions in earmark requests—in just 17 months in office.”

Fimian at Nokesville Parade

May 15, 2010

Citizen Tom

I attended Nokesville Day today, and I enjoyed myself. Since I work with computers, I got the chance to do something I do not do often enough.  I got to spend the day outside talking to people. Of course, since I am a Republican, I was with the Republicans in the parade. As an after thought, I took some pictures with my crummy cell phone camera.  So for what they are worth, here they are.

Note that we have a Republican primary election on June 8th.  Candidates Keith Fimian and Pat Herrity are contesting for the Republican nomination for the Congress, Virginia’s 11th District.  However, other than the fact each candidate had his own “float,” Republicans presented a united front.

April 2010 Deficit Four Times Higher Than 2009

May 13, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement in response to Treasury Department reports that the Federal budget deficit for the month of April 2010 quadrupled to $82 billion:

Federal spending is completely out of control. Reckless spending is bankrupting our nation and leaving future generations a staggering bill,” Fimian said. “Gerry Connolly and Nancy Pelosi have no intention of stopping this spending madness. They are driving the nation off a cliff to economic ruin at high speed.”

The US government has now run a deficit for 19 straight months, the longest string of monthly deficits on record. For the year, the budget deficit is on track to be $l.5 trillion, surpassing last year’s deficit of $1.4 trillion.

Cuccinelli Endorses Fimian in GOP Race

May 12, 2010

Washington Post

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli (R) is wading into the competitive Republican primary in the 11th congressional district, endorsing Keith Fimian as the best candidate to unseat Rep. Gerry Connolly (D).

Cuccinelli praised Fimian for being a “job creator” and for being “100% pro-life.” His letter does not refer to Herrity, but he does say Republicans should “not return to the business-as-usual politics that lost us the majority in the first place.” That squares with Fimian’s strategy to run as an outsider in contrast with Herrity, who holds elected office and is the son of the late John Herrity, who served as a Fairfax Supervisor for 16 years.

“Ken is a guy that has a lot of experience here in Northern Virginia and has a lot of supporters here,” Fimian said in a telephone interview Wednesday, adding that he believed the attorney general’s support would carry some real weight with conservatives.

Fimian Receives Cuccinelli Endorsement in 11th

May 12, 2010

Family Foundation Blog

There was more big new in the increasingly high profile Virginia Republican 11th Congressional District nomination campaign. Overshadowed by the Tea Party dominated 5th and 2nd district races, Republicans Keith Fimian and Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity have methodically raised the decibel level over charges and counter charges of who has raised taxes and who’s more electable in the general election against first-term incumbent Democrat Gerry Connolly.

Today, Fimian made more news: Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli endorsed him. His endorsement statement reads:

The endorsement by Cuccinelli, the most popular statewide official among conservative and libertarian activists, and a rare pol not afraid to jump in where principle matters, should be a real asset to Fimian among primary voters. Fimian, who started and runs U.S. Inspect, the nation’s largest provider of residential and commercial property inspection services, ran a spirited campaign but lost the Northern Virginia swing district to Connolly in 2008, a poisoned year for Republicans. The seat was open due to the retirement of former moderate GOP Congressman Tom Davis. It is targeted by state and national Republicans.

Connolly’s Government Healthcare Takeover Explodes Budget

May 12, 2010

Plan Already $115 Billion More Than Predicted

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today in response to news that Gerry Connolly’s government healthcare takeover is already expected to cost $115 billion more than earlier estimates:

“When Gerry Connolly took to the floor of the US House of Representatives as president of the democrat freshman class to urge his colleagues to support Nancy Pelosi’s government takeover of healthcare in March, he answered his own question, saying:  ‘Will it reduce the deficit?  Yes, it will.’  It was hard to take him at his word given his votes for the failed $832 billion stimulus and cap-and-trade, and billions in earmark requests,” Fimian said.

Letter to the Editor: Vote for Fimian

May 07, 2010

Connection Newspaper

To the Editor:

I am one of your neighbors. I have a small business and live with my family in this county. My husband and I are homeowners and have raised our children to attend public schools. We pay taxes and fees that maintain fields and sports complexes, (and we have nothing but blessings and gratitude for all the volunteers that run the hundreds of sports clubs for our kids.) This demonstrates that we have skin in the game in terms of unseating the entrenched Democrat incumbent non-representing U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11)

Both my husband and I strongly endorse one man in the Virginia 11th District primary race. That man is Keith Fimian (R). The reasons are quite simple. Of the two candidates running, he’s the only one with the entrepreneurial spirit, job-creating record and sense of accountability that is needed in Congress to force it to tighten its belt. He’s also the one that shows the determination necessary to rein in spending, provide perspective in Congress to foster small business and job creation, and has vowed to lead the charge against earmarks. When an individual has had his savings, his patrimony everything on the line at one point or another in order to keep a business afloat, in order to fulfill his responsibility to hundreds of employees and exercises sound management, he becomes the best advocate to represent us in Congress. And the icing on the cake, he’s not a career politician or an insider with behind-close-door deals that bind him. On June 8, we’ll be voting Keith Fimian for Congress.

Fimian Announces Grassroots Victory Team

Apr 26, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released his Grassroots Victory Team and issued the following statement:

“I am thrilled and humbled to have the support of so many fantastic grassroots leaders from Prince William County, Fairfax County, and Fairfax City,” Fimian said.  “From Mount Vernon to Haymarket, and everywhere in between, there is no question that the most energetic, most respected Republican activists in the 11th District are rallying behind my campaign.  This is real, tangible grassroots support.  These are the best of the best, and they are supporting my campaign.”

Gerry Connolly: Virginia’s Beltway Bandit

Apr 23, 2010

Fimian Launches VirginiasBeltwayBandit.com

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released a new website today, www.VirginiasBeltwayBandit.com.  The site exposes Gerry Connolly’s big spending, big government agenda and his pay-to-play earmark record:

“Gerry Connolly is Northern Virginia’s beltway bandit.  He taxes, spends, and borrows from our children and grandchildren to feed his big government agenda,” Fimian said.  “The Connolly agenda has consistently failed to help our economy. Connolly has also failed to create jobs and failed spectacularly to hold the line against wasteful spending.”

Stop the Obama VAT Tax

Apr 22, 2010

Will Connolly support the VAT?

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement today regarding President Obama’s announcement that a value-added tax is being considered by the administration:

“With our economy still struggling to recover, the last thing the White House and Congress need to do is cripple businesses and hard working middle class families with a value-added tax on top of all other existing taxes,” Fimian said.  “A value-added tax is anything but the solution to our economic woes; it would expand the reach and cost of government and destroy jobs.  I call on Gerry Connolly to fight this proposal.  It would be terrible for families, businesses, the 11th District, and our nation.”

Finding Footing on Common Ground

Apr 21, 2010

Fairfax Connection

The two contenders for the Republican nomination for this November’s 11th Congressional District race took the stage at Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield Thursday, April 15 to show local voters what sets them apart from each other. While both offered many of the same assessments of the recently passed health care bill, the economy and more, they each discussed the different roads they took to get to this point, and how their experiences will better serve the residents of the district than incumbent U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11).

Fimian, on the other hand, made his name in the business world, creating a successful business from scratch and parlaying that into political aspirations. Fimian, married with three daughters, went to The College of William and Mary, where he played football. He followed that up by founding U.S. Inspect, LLC in his garage and turned it into the nation’s largest provider of residential and commercial property inspection services, conducting more than 100,000 inspections annually and owning 73 patent claims. His experience, he said, differs from the typical politician and gives him a different view on the district’s problems and how to solve them.

“I’m an ordinary citizen, just like you,” Fimian said. “I am a citizen who looks out and is very concerned about what he sees. Most politicians care about getting elected and moving up to the next rung on the ladder and that’s why we are in the mess we are in today.”

Americans for Prosperity Applauds U.S. House Candidate Keith Fimian -Signs No Climate Tax Pledge-

Apr 19, 2010

RICHMOND—The Virginia chapter of the grassroots free market organization Americans for Prosperity (AFP-VA) today applauded U.S. House candidate Keith Fimian (11th District) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” Fimian joins more than 475 lawmakers and candidates on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”

“The one thing elected officials should all be able to agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses,” said AFP-VA State Director Ben Marchi. “We encourage all of Virginia’s elected officials and candidates for elected office to sign the pledge.”

Fimian Releases First TV Spot “Mess”

Apr 19, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released his first television spot today titled “Mess.”

“I am excited to announce that my campaign is again the first one on the air in this race.  First radio and now TV taking on Gerry Connolly and Nancy Pelosi for the ‘mess’ they have created.  Their policies are destroying our economy, from the government healthcare takeover to their failed stimulus to their trillions in debt,” Fimian said.

Styles Clash at Republican Debate for 11th District

Apr 16, 2010

Washington Examiner

Fimian railed against “blatherheads” on television who he believes don’t understand how to create jobs. He pledged to abolish all earmarks. He forecasted a coming blanket amnesty for illegal immigrants in the wake of the health care bill’s passage, many of whom “will be on the public dole.”

“That will vastly increase the ranks of Democratic voters” who will support sustaining those benefits, Fimian charged.

Fimian Slams Connolly on Earmarks

Apr 15, 2010

The Examiner

Yesterday Keith Fimian, who is vying for the Republican nomination in the 11th congressional district, issued a challenge to his competitors, fellow challenger Pat Herrity (R-11) and incumbent Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11).

“I call on Gerry Connolly and Pat Herrity to join in me in swearing off earmarks and supporting legislation in Congress to ban earmarks completely and permanently,” Fimian said.

“I also call on Pat Herrity to join me in supporting a complete ban.  Herrity needs to take a stand on this issue.  Voters will have to make a choice, and they deserve to know if they are voting for another Gerry Connolly when it comes to earmarks and wasteful spending,” Fimian said.  “11th District voters overwhelmingly oppose earmarks.  They want to fire Gerry Connolly, but they don’t want to replace him with Gerry Connolly-lite.”

Letter to the Editor

Apr 15, 2010

Ashburn Connection

While Connolly was holding what he called “open” meetings on health care at gated communities and senior retirement developments, his leading challenger Keith Fimian (R) held an open advertised healthcare town hall meeting at the Fairfax County Government Center. Go figure.

Maybe Connolly can share his thinking behind this in his next Connection column.

Fortunately, for all of those who may be unhappy with the work Mr. Connolly has been doing, there is a referendum scheduled. It will be Tuesday, Nov. 2, Election Day.

Connolly Has Raised Taxes by $670 Billion in 16 Months

Apr 14, 2010

Fairfax, VA - Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11), issued the following
statement today in response to news that Nancy Pelosi and Gerry Connolly have raised taxes by
more than $670 billion since January 2009:

“Tomorrow is the deadline for Americans to file their taxes. After thousands of pages of
complex code, billions of hours of preparation, and hundreds of billions spent on compliance, the
Federal government takes an enormous bite out of the earnings of millions and millions of
hardworking Americans,” Fimian said. “And Gerry Connolly doesn’t think these Americans pay
enough. In just 16 months, he has voted for $670 billion in tax increases, including $316 billion
that directly hit the middle class.”

Congress Isn’t Doing Its Job

Apr 12, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today in response to reports that Congress will miss its April 15 deadline to pass next year’s budget without even considering a draft in either chamber:

“The American people expect Congress to do its job.  Right now it simply isn’t.  This is a problem caused by career politicians in both parties. They can’t get the job done.  They are incompetent.  When members of Congress aren’t getting the job done, the American people need to fire them,” Fimian said.  “The Republicans blew it when they were in charge. Now Democrats like Gerry Connolly are blowing it again. Families and businesses don’t have this luxury. There needs to be stiff penalties on Congress for failing to move the budget and other priorities on time.”

Congressman in Trouble After Health Care Vote

Apr 04, 2010

AOL News

TYSONS CORNER, Va. (April 4)—Rep. Gerry Connolly was among friends as he explained at a Rotary Club breakfast why he voted for health care reform last month.

The Cook Political Report rates the race here as one of the nation’s most competitive, even though Connolly won’t know who his Republican challenger is until after the primary election June 8. The reasons are many.

That’s what Connolly’s would-be Republican challengers hope to offer. Businessman Keith Fimian, a virtual unknown who waged a respectable but losing campaign against Connolly two years ago, hopes for a rematch. But first he must beat Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity, the son of an iconic local political leader whose name graces a parkway and a county building. Both say job losses, high taxes and runaway government spending are top priorities and blame health reform for exacerbating them all.

Fimian Announces Northern Virginia Business Supporters

Mar 31, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) announced his ‘Business Leaders for Fimian’ coalition today.

“I am thrilled to have so many great Northern Virginia business leaders supporting my campaign,” Fimian said.  “Circumstance today demands that principled business leaders get involved in politics because we need elected officials who know how to create jobs and stimulate the economy in a way that empty rhetoric simply cannot.  Business leaders are flocking to my campaign because I am the only candidate in this race that has actually created jobs – and I have created hundreds of them.”

Obama Looks to Rewrite Federal Contracting Rules to Benefit Unions

Mar 30, 2010

Will Connolly Stand-up to Big Labor and for Northern Virginia Commuters?

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today regarding a proposal by the Obama administration to give preference to federal contractors paying their employees a “living wage”:

“President Obama accepted millions in campaign contributions from organized labor while on the campaign trail in 2008, and now he is working to reward his benefactors in organized labor by directing federal contracts to contractors that pay a ‘living wage,” Fimian said.  “This proposal is simply an effort by Democrats to strengthen the hand of big labor and subvert state level right to work laws.”

Fimian Signs Pledge to Repeal Obamacare

Mar 30, 2010

Washington Examiner

Fimian, the chief executive officer of commercial property inspection firm U.S. Inspect, says his experience as an employer gives him a “unique perspective” on opposing the federal law. He worries he will be put at a competitive disadvantage with companies who choose to stop paying for their employees’ health plans and accept the $2,000 per-worker penalty.

“They make it very hard to compete if you’re facing competition that would go that route,” Fimian said.

DNC, Union Bosses Payback Connolly for Healthcare Vote

Mar 29, 2010

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement regarding television ads being aired by the Democratic National Committee and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) praising Connolly for his recent vote in favor of a government healthcare takeover:

“It didn’t take long for the DNC and labor union bosses to payback Gerry Connolly for his support of their budget-busting big government healthcare takeover,” Fimian said.  “It is clear who Gerry Connolly serves—apparently anyone who promises him campaign contributions or political favors.”

Connolly’s Earmarks to Contributors Scandal Grows

Mar 25, 2010

Fairfax, VA - Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) again called out Gerry Connolly today for submitting earmarks requests for his campaign contributors.

“I call on Gerry Connolly to immediately return all campaign contributions he has received from contributors for whom he submitted earmark requests,” Fimian said.  “This is just the latest revelation about Connolly’s efforts to apparently payback contributors with earmarks.  Earlier this month my campaign pointed out another case of Connolly submitting earmark requests for contributors, but Connolly has remained silent.”

Is Healthcare Rep. Connolly’s Waterloo?

Mar 23, 2010

The Examiner

There has been considerable debate on how the health insurance reform bill (now law, as of this morning) will reverberate to the November elections.  All of the freshman Congressmen from Virginia are in the spotlight but the most intriguing might be Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11).  Connolly is considered in the safest seat but could be in for a tough challenge.

Keith Fimian, one of Connolly’s GOP opponents is counting on this legislation as a wedge issue, “The American people have repeatedly rejected the Democrats’ plan to force a government takeover of healthcare and put 1/6 of our nation’s economy under government control,” Fimian said.  “Gerry Connolly has cast his lot with Nancy Pelosi, against the will of his constituents and the American people…It is clear that Pelosi and Connolly aren’t interested in truly fixing problems with our healthcare system, but only in achieving an agenda-driven outcome and declaring a political victory.”

Keith Fimian’s Supporters Presence Noted at George Mason University Rally

Mar 19, 2010

Thoughts from the Bish

This from the student newspaper at George Mason University.  The two most interesting points in the article are:

1.  The headline is misleading.  Obama could’t fill the Patriot Center and the article notes that there were only about 8,000 people in the 10,000 seat auditorium.  This on a campus of about 30,000 students in a county that went for Obama in 2008.  Many of those that attended were obviously not students but Democrat activists from the Northern Virginia area but it shows that the luster of the Obama image is gone regardless of the endgame on Obamacare.

2.  Although another candidate for the Republican nomination for Congress was present along with his signs, the only candidate the student’s noted was Keith Fimian.  Perhaps the Fimian supporters were a bit more enthusiastic during the rally?

Fimian Tells Connolly Substance Matters on the Healthcare Bill

Admittedly, I very much like my own opinions. Thus, I very much like to write about those opinions. However, I am not running for public office. So from time-to-time I try to serve the greater good by publicizing the views of someone who is running for public office.

What follows is an email from Keith Fimian. In this email, Fimian admits Gerry Connolly is right about something.

Fairfax, VA – Today The Hill reports Gerry Connolly yelling at a reporter saying, “What matters is the substance of the bill,” in reference to the healthcare bill Democrats are trying to ram through Congress this week.

Keith Fimian, Republican for Congress (VA-11), replied, “He’s right.  Substance matters.  And the substance of this bill is bad for health care, bad for our economy and bad for our budget.”

Updates from the Fimian for Congress Campaign

Mar 08, 2010

Examiner

Virginia Congressional candidate Keith Fimian (R-11) recently made a statement regarding the attempts to revamp health care by the federal government.  Mr. Fimian directed his comments at the man who currently holds the seat he is trying to win in November.

“With the news that initial unemployment claims have surged 12 percent nationally in the past two weeks, residents of the 11th District are asking why Gerry Connolly is still more focused on ramming a trillion dollar healthcare bill through Congress by any means necessary, rather than working to enact policies to put Americans back to work and get our economy moving again,” Fimian said.

Fimian Kicks Off Campaign with Fiscally Conservative Message

Mar 03, 2010

Gainesville Times

As businessman Keith Fimian (R) kicked off his second campaign for the 11th Congressional District last Saturday in Haymarket, he checked off an imagine list of conservative positions.

Pro-second amendment? Check. Anti-card check, or what he called “forced unionization?” Check. Pro-life? Check. “Secure our borders?” Check. Tough on terror? Check.

Yet all those issues to a back seat to the economy, particularly the money going in and out of the federal government. Fimian, who first ran for the 11th Congressional district in 2008, railed against taxes, government spending and “career politicians” after receiving an introduction by Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart (R). “You’re money’s your money,” he told the audience of more than 100 people gathered on the second floor of Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant. “I just don’t trust politicians anymore. I think you should have more of your pay, so I took the no-tax pledge.”        Fimian focused

his message on the concept that he’s created jobs in the private sector while Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th) and Supervisor Pat Herrity (R-Spingfield) have not, despite any claims to the contrary. “...I know what it takes to create jobs,” said the former CEO of US Inspect. “It’s what I do. It’s what I’m good at. And I’ve created hundreds of jobs. That’s something we don’t have in government, it’s something we desperately need.”

Fimian’s Prince William Kick Off

Feb 28, 2010

Citizen Tom

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending Keith Fimian’s Prince William Campaign Kickoff at Guiseppe’s Italian Grill in Haymarket, Virginia. Who is Keith Fimian? Well, it is my hope this man will be the 11th Congressional District’s next Congressional Representative. This post is about what happened at the Kickoff.

The notables included:

  * Supervisor Corey Stewart.
  * Sheriff Glen Hill.
  * School Board Member Milt Johns.
  * PWCRC Chairman Lyle Beefelt.
  * Bob FitzSimmonds (Note that Bob expects to run once again for the State Senate seat currently held be Chuck Colgan.)

Fimian spoke about his reasons for running.

  * He wants his children to have the same opportunities he had. Americans, not America’s government, make America a great place. Instead of helping America, our government is now spending our grandchildren’s future.  Fimian spoke of speaking to some of the senior citizens at Heritage Hunt. These people, proud of the legacy they had left subsequent generations, now see that legacy being squandered. Fimian wants to get our country back to its tradition of leaving a better America for the next generation.
  * The people we have sent to Washington D.C. to govern us need to be replaced. These people are wreaking our economy, and they do not know how to fix the problems they created.

Keith Announces his Candidacy

Nov 09, 2009

Fairfax, VA —Last year I campaigned for Congress on the platform of fiscal responsibility, opposition to corruption and the need to get our economy moving. Those issues are even more critical today.

Consider how Congress has gone out-of-control on spending:

A staggering one year Federal budget of $3.6 trillion, nearly half of which ($1.7 trillion) will be financed by debt.

$787 billion stimulus law that has done nothing to slow unemployment or spur economic growth.

A cap-and-trade boondoggle that contains massive taxes that will hit Northern Virginia families.

The numbers are mind numbing.  And that doesn’t even include the trillion dollar health care bill being debated!

This Congress has blown through spending records without even reading the bills they are voting on! And the spending has not slowed the growth in unemployment. Rather, creating economic insecurity. Northern Virginia families are hurting and Congress has no answer but more spending.

I had hoped that Gerry Connolly would learn from his mistakes.  He drove Fairfax County’s budget into a $648 million ditch of red ink.  Then he moved across the Potomac and has continued being a rubber stamp for runaway wasteful spending in the trillions.

We have to say NO to the politicians and special interests who are pushing our nation into bankruptcy.  We need to encourage, not burden, small businesses so they can hire people and help our economy grow again.

Because Gerry Connolly has proven he is incapable of addressing the challenges Northern Virginia families face, I have decided to run once again for the 11th Congressional District.

The hard truth is America faces enormous challenges.  We are mortgaging our grandchildren’s future with this spending and massive debt.  It jeopardizes our jobs, economy, retirement, homes our entire way of life.

I’ve created jobs.  I’ve tackled tough budgets.  In Congress I will put the brakes on the spending, curb the special interests and focus on getting our economy moving again, so our children and grandchildren will have an America as great as the one we inherited.  I ask for your support.
